DO Deep Sea Oxygen

Oxygen sensor for deep-sea use –
Monitoring and slow profiling 2000 m / 6000 m

This membrane-covered oxygen sensor was
developed primarily for long-term monitoring, but also for slow profiling. The O2 sensor operates on the amperometric principle. The anode consists of a silver tube that is in contact with a halogen-containing electrolyte inside the sensor.

The cathode consists of a glass body in which a platinum wire
is arranged as the cathode. At the rounded end of the sensor, there is a removable cap that holds a gas-permeable membrane in position. The sensor can be used in saltwater, lakes, and rivers (freshwater or brackish water). A multi-core 4-wire subsea cable is used for power supply and data acquisition.

A power supply of 9…18 VDC is used as the power source for the sensor. The
sensor consists of a titanium pressure tube, an oxygen sensor head
with replaceable electrolyte and membrane (for various applications),
a sensor cap, and a titanium/neoprene underwater connector (optionally with
locking sleeves).

A pressure resistance of 2000 or 6000 dbar is guaranteed. When the sensor is connected to an external power supply, the continuous polarization of the sensor is interrupted by an integrated switch. The oxygen sensor was designed to provide different performances depending on the membranes used. The sensor typically uses two membranes: the inner membrane for measurement and the outer membrane for protection.
